For many IT professionals, one of the first certifications they obtain is the A+. Individuals just getting into the IT field or wanting to increase their knowledge should know that two new A+ exams are available. These are the 220-801 and 220-802. These exams will replace 220-701 and 220-702. While the previous exams will continue to be available until August of 2013, now would be a good time to start considering the new exams.
One reason to consider the new exams is that they test candidates on the most current technology and skills. 220-801 addresses core knowledge areas, including:
- Hardware — 40%
- Networking — 27%
- Laptops — 11%
- Operational Procedures — 11%
220-802 will require candidates to understand the following topics:
- Operating systems — 33%
- Security — 22%
- Mobile devices — 9%
- Troubleshooting — 36%
The items covered on the exam, including mobile devices, smart phones, and tablets, are the same skills you’ll need to understand when working in the IT field. The A+ certification is a good place to start if you’ve been thinking about making the move to IT.
